Welcome to my website. My name is Maria Doukas and I am a self-taught artist from Montreal, Canada who specializes in acrylic and mixed media. From an early age, I have always been a creative individual as art was where my interests and abilities naturally fell into harmony. Early on into establishing my creative identity, I discovered that I could convey my sense of self and emotions through drawing and painting on canvases.

Drawing on my keen visual memory and talent for composition, I embarked on crafting artworks that deeply resonated with others. These were no mere commodities that I churned out for profit, but rather unique artworks. While people's preferences in art are diverse, one thing became clear to me: the ultimate goal is to create something that is breathtakingly beautiful or deeply inspiring.

Following the completion of my Marketing degree and the birth of my three children, I rekindled my affection and enthusiasm for painting. My creative pieces are characterized by their vivid hues, daring strokes, and imaginative concepts. With a particular emphasis on texture and motion, my three-dimensional works follow their own unique logic.

About Me

I freely experiment with a range of mediums. Texture is an essential element in my work, which I achieve by using a variety of techniques such as varying brush strokes, incorporating metallic hues, and strategically layering quick blots of paint over flat ones. I create rough and smooth surfaces by incorporating materials like glass, rock, and sand. Texture is critical in creating contrasting features and giving a painting a more lifelike appearance. Each piece has its own character and significance. Drawing inspiration from my life experiences, I strive to create compelling and distinctive pieces that stimulate conversations.

“The more you challenge yourself, the more you will be amazed on what you can create.”

It is vital for me to push myself and my craft by venturing into uncharted painting techniques. I dedicate myself to ensuring that my artwork remains innovative and stimulating. With every new day, there is a new mood, and new art to create. My goal is to bring beauty to life through my paintings and I achieve this by painting in layers. I begin with a blank canvas and then add each element one by one. My approach to painting is straightforward: I explore, question, observe, and then paint. As a result, no two of my pieces are ever the same.
